Sheryl L. Hamer MPH, JD

           I am a born and raised Hoosier from Indianapolis, Indiana and received my Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. I also have earned my Bachelor of Science in Applied Health Science and Master of Public Health with a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology and Health from Indiana University Bloomington. I am currently a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), and Lawyers with Purpose.

           Prior to attending law school, I worked in healthcare with seniors and their families. My experience in the senior healthcare industry includes being a Clinical Liaison for an inpatient geriatric psychiatric hospital, a Director of Resident Care for a senior living community, and a Program Manager at a behavioral health hospital. I have had the opportunity to extern for the Center for At-Risk Elders and AARP Indiana. I also spent several years on the Marion County Council on Aging board and as a member of CICOA’s Aging and In-Home Solutions Advisory Council.

             I have always been passionate about helping seniors and their families because of the simple fact that everyone is aging. After personally going through the challenges that can occur with an aging loved one within my own family, I knew I wanted to do more to help other families. This is when I decided to attend law school to give back to the community by helping Hoosiers and their families make the best decisions when planning for their futures.

            I grew up having weekly Friday dinners with my grandparents and have been fortunate to continue on with this tradition today. When I am not spending time with family and my young son Elias, I enjoy practicing yoga and planning my next travel adventure.
